Swan Tavern

Ship Tavern Passage
City of London
EC3V 1LY

Although this pub is not a listed building, it is, according to information shown in the pub, on the site of a pub built in 1861. The current building dates from 1898. Outside two large lanterns with red and green stained glass hang over the entrance which is emblazoned with ‘The Swan Tavern’ in beautiful Art Nouveau lettering. Inside, there are two drinking areas: one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The narrow downstairs bar has been modernised with some exposed brickwork but retains a marble-topped bar counter and a mirror advertising Bellingham’s Gin and Whiskies. The first-floor bar has one wall lined with plain modern mirrors but the ceiling retains its plaster cornice, now painted over.
