Like the Partridge, this pub is a grade II listed building and the listing description is as follows: “Architect Ernest Newton. This range was rebuilt in 1898 on the site of an earlier hostelry of 1666. Four to five storeys red brick. Slate roof with nine pedimented dormers. Dropped modillion cornice. Three three-light bays with pargetting containing Neo-Jacobean motifs. Two one-light sashes; all with pargetting. One plain door and main doorcase with curved pediment supported on Roman Ionic half columns. Later shopfronts.”

Also like the Partridge, the Royal Bell is in Bromley Town Centre Conservation Area.

This pub was closed and near-derelict for many years. It reopened in 2025 and is operated by The BELLE Collective as a boutique hotel and private members’ club. However, the Bar and Grill and Zilli’s Café are open to non-members as well as members. The interior retains a fine terrazzo entrance hall, whereas the hospitality spaces, including the bar, have been decorated in an Art Deco style with an impressive circular server. THE DRESS CODE IS SMART CASUAL. The splendidly fenestrated Royal Hall is upstairs on the first floor as are the toilets. Entrance to the Royal Hall is often guarded by staff so on your way to the toilets you will probably only be able to glimpse the interior from the doorway. On the second floor are more rooms but these are less spectacular. From the ground floor you can make your way, if so inclined, to the basement ‘Club House’ which on the day of our dummy run of the tour was said to be not yet in use, despite the fact that it was fully furnished. Back at ground level, a further dining area is in the conservatory extension and a spacious paved garden area lies beyond.
